This is the form of registration that enables a doctor to practice medicine legally in an approved Irish hospital so that he/she may return to his/her country of origin with a higher degree of competence. Sometimes Temporary Registration may be given to cater for service appointments which arise in approved hospitals where vacancies occur. Temporary registration can be a route to full registration, which allows unrestricted practice. It is a restricted privilege. The Temporary Registration Assessment Scheme sets out the mechanisms by which doctors can obtain temporary registration.
