Useful Serological Parameters in Confirmation of SCLC

In the attempt to achieve an initial separation between small-cell types (oat-cell, or round-cell subtype) of lung cancer for systemic therapeutic treatment, a serological analysis of neural cell adhesion molecule (NCAM) and neuron-specific enolase (NSE) values can be helpful to confirm small-cell anaplastic cancers or at least to detect this type as a component of the neoplastic lesion. The values obtained in the investigation of 221 cases are listed in Table 2.
